The word cellulite was first used in the 1920s and is really a description not a medical condition. It refers to the dimpling of skin on mostly women, or women past the age of puberty, and you might some times hear women refer to it as orange peel skin or you may have even heard them say things like cottage cheese thighs. The cottage cheese term is probably more popular.
You usually find cellulite in the pelvic region, lower limbs and abdomen area of women’s bodies. Men do not normally suffer from having cellulite except in a few rare instances, one of those being treated for prostrate cancer with oestrogen therapy.
Some people in the cosmetic surgical area of medicine will tell you that it is simply a term that women use when they don’t like an area of their body that contains this dimpling effect. Although it is probably not an appropriate term to use for this displeasing curve or look on your body, most of us suffer from it.
There are many who will tell you that it is just part of life, but there can be many different causes for cellulite. There are also many different types of treatments such as creams, exercise, and cosmetic surgery, however, there is not a cure for cellulite. Some companies with products to sell, will tell you that their particular product of course is the cure you need. Anything to make a sale and promote their product.
If you are a woman and do not have any areas of your body that have cellulite, then you should count yourself lucky along with the other 10 to 20 percent who does not have cellulite and may never get cellulite. The majority of the female population, however has been fighting cellulite for most of their lives and will probably continue to do so. There are many things we can do to improve our body, but making cellulite disappear is not one of them.
